Finally, some good news for people wanting to move home…
As of 13th May 2020, the Government restrictions on moving home were lifted. Estate agents were also given the green light to start viewing property again, albeit subject to certain conditions.
This means that if you want to move, you can do so, whilst adhering to social distancing and other protective measures to keep safe.
Of course, all vulnerable people and people who are shielding can also move, but careful consideration must be given to their “personal situation and the circumstances of their own move” and they “may wish to seek medical advice before deciding whether to commit to or go ahead with a move” – in other words, only move if it is safe for you to do so!
Things to think about: –
- Removals – if you are moving and need to book removers, then this should be done as soon as possible. Speak to your removers about their procedures for moving you safely and keeping 2 metres apart.
- Flexibility – prepare to be flexible during the moving process, especially if someone becomes ill due to the virus and has to self-isolate. If this happens, that is likely to cause a delay. You will need to speak to your solicitor about the best ways in which you can be protected if your transaction is delayed because of the coronavirus.
- Viewings – if you have not yet sold your home but want prospective buyers to view it, your estate agent should have a procedure in place to allow for virtual viewings. If that is not possible, then you might want to consider vacating the property whilst viewings are being carried out or limiting the number of people who view your home.
